Welcome to the official website for my upcoming book, Semicolon; Memoir of a Colon Cancer Survivor. Here I’ll be posting updates and news about the book as it winds its way through the creation, editing, and, ultimately, publication – and beyond.
While I have more than sixty published credits – as author, co-author, cover designer, layout (book designer), and even artist – this is my first endeavor publishing my own non-fiction work.
The book itself consists largely of the original blog I kept from the time I was diagnosed with colo-rectal cancer, through my treatements for the cancer, and for a period of time afterward. My ups and downs, triumphs and failures, are all contained in the book. My journey isn’t “over” (nor will it ever be, really).
My goal in publishing the book is to raise awareness about this disease, bring hope to those who develop it and undergo their own journey and last (but not least) to raise money for researchthat will one day find a cure for colon cancer. I’ll be donating half of the proceeds from the sales of this book to one or more organizations engaged in cancer research. My goal is to raise $1 Million for cancer research with this book! A lofty goal, true, but we will reach it.
Please check in often, or sign up for my mailing list (once it’s up) to keep abreast of this project. Because I am publishing the blog I kept while I underwent my own cancer journey, most of the text is already written. That will cut the time to publication down significantly. There are still a lot of things to be done, however. These include writing additional material for the book (updated entries, etc.), editing, layout, cover design, marketing, and more.
Ultimately I plan for the book to be available in print, e-book, and audio book formats. The exact venues are yet undecided but the obvious choices are Amazon.com (for print and Kindle versions), as well as iTunes and/or Amazon .mp3 for the audio book.
If you follow this blog you will learn as I go. By reading my updates you will also get a glimpse of the self-publishing process and perhaps even pick up a few tips on how to go about doing this yourself, for your own book. If nothing else, it’s my hope that you’ll gain an appreciation for the creation of the book, some excitement about its pending release, and even get to know the author a bit. (I hear he’s a pretty nice guy.)
Until next time…
